Dave East – Survival

I don’t think I’m wrong when I say a lot of the current artist dominating the hip hop charts come with a similar bravado. They all seem to be following the same formula. Dave East on the other hand is cut from a different cloth. On “Survival”, he shows this over and over. Dave East is definitely an artist with some depth. On “Momma I Made It” he rhymes “So proud of her first born I can tell, she the only one who sent me money in jail”. Then he comes back with ” Penthouse” dropping bars like “Elevator Just press penthouse, it bring you right to me, best flight you ever smoked in your life, put you right to sleep”. These two bars show the contrast between his two extremes. While sitting on the top of the hip hop mountain at the moment, he does not forget the humble beginnings and struggles from which he served. The album has 20 songs with features from Nas, Lil Baby, Rick Ross, Ty Dolla $ign and many more. Definitely one you should hear if you like real rap.
